A US-based company with global operations, Objectivity, Inc. is
the leading provider of distributed, real-time, SOA-enabled database
management solutions for mission-critical applications. The company’s
flagship product, Objectivity/DB, is used by government, security,
complex manufacturing, commercial services, science, and engineering
organisations to increase speed, precision and productivity. Mr. Jay
Jarrell, President and CEO for Objectivity, talks about increasing
market demand for their very high-end solutions.
Prior to being promoted to Chief
Executive Officer in 2002, Mr. Jarrell
was senior vice president, sales and
marketing. He joined Objectivity in
1997 and held several management
positions during his tenure. “Back in
1997, Objectivity was a small embedded
technology company with a focus on
data intensive applications,” Mr. Jarrell
said. “With a growing need for distributed
computing, the company has since
considerably evolved. We see ourselves
as a solutions provider now, and are
proud of having built a global customer
base including high-profile names
such as General Dynamics, Northrop
Grumman, Nortel Networks, Motorola,
and Siemens.”
Mr. Jarrell explains that Objectivity’s
specialist expertise lies in strategic
software at the very high end of
management solutions for missioncritical
applications in distributed
environments. Government would then
be the first target customer you’d think
of for Objectivity, but, as Mr. Jarrell
points out, having to find new ways
of achieving interoperability and
collaboration between multiple physical
locations and multiple systems is of
all industries. The company’s flagship
product, Objectivity/DB, indeed offers
a distributed architecture that enables
real-time information processing,
interoperability and a single, logical
view comprised of data from multiple sources that can serve in multiple
automation systems. Objectivity/DB
is already embedded in automation
systems for customers including Metso
Automation, Siemens, NEC and
Emerson. “It’s all about managing
localised, centralised or distributed
object databases by synthesising large,
complicated streams of data into a
single logical view,” notes Mr. Jarrell.
He adds that while manufacturing
infrastructures become increasingly
complex, he can see a growing market
for the very high-end solutions that
Objectivity provides. Underscoring his
words, the company reported on record
revenues for the quarter ended March
31, 2008.
Objectivity’s data repository platform
helped fuel a 51 percent increase in
revenue over the quarter, and a 21
percent increase in revenue for the nine
months ended March 31, 2008 compared
to the same time period last year. Mr.
Jarrell attributes the growth to the
company’s strategic investments in
marketing, sales, customer support, and
customer-focused product developments
over the last several years. “We had
significant success with respect to the
number of new customers we signed in
the commercial and government verticals
where our flagship product, Objectivity/
DB, has a unique advantage. Looking
forward, the usage requirements,
complexity and performance of our high-end customers’ applications will continue
to move in our direction, and we are in
a strong position to see new adoption
of our embedded technology in the
future.”
