The use of mobile technology is no longer limited to service and sales
people in the field. Addressing the growing demand for diverse mobile
applications, UK-based software house TAAP develops easy to
implement services and solutions for a broad range of mobile devices
as Mr. Gordon Smillie, Managing Director of TAAP, explains.
Mr. Smillie has been in the IT industry
for 30 years, and has previously held
various positions at IBM, Microsoft and
British Telecom. He joined TAAP two
years ago. He explains that TAAP was
established in 2003 at a time when, in
his words, mobile devices for the first
time had become fully enterprise ready.
"We developed a proprietary technology
platform, The Agile Application Platform
(TAAP), which allows clients to deliver
mobile applications to up to thousands
of users with little to no integration
effort, delivering new mobile
applications extremely quickly, and at
low cost." Today TAAP has an impressive
portfolio of customers including DHL,
Northgate, and Renault. "The flexibility
of our technology platform is such that
we can serve all industry verticals and
businesses of all sizes. We have the
capabilities to service customers all over
the world, and are currently working
with clients in Australia and Pakistan
amongst others."
Mr. Smilllie highlights their award-
winning software solution TAAP Data
Capture, designed to enable companies
to capture leads at events, exhibitions or
fundraising activities in an accurate and
quick manner. Mr. Smillie: "Within ten
seconds you can have an e-mail sent
out, with the appropriate brochures
enclosed." The cost and timesaving
TAAP Field Force allows organisations to
transfer time-consuming and costly
paper processing into electronic forms
available on mobile devices.
The most recent addition to the TAAP
portfolio is data capture software
specifically designed for the Apple
iPad and the iPhone. "There has been
a massive increase in the use of Apple,
BlackBerry and Android platforms. We
have expanded our services to meet
growing demand in that space. We've
also developed a solution for the iPad
now." According to Mr. Smillie the iPad
may not be the best device for all
industries – car body shops and
hospitals for instance – but the
feedback on their iPad application has
been great. "It takes us into different
marketing areas; we are very excited
about the possibilities."
